Founded in the 80's, the VT Cycling team was originally created as a way for students who raced to share stories, train together, and talk bikes in their free time. Flash forward almost 40 years and the team consists of anywhere from 30-40 full and part-time, undergrad, graduate, and doctorate students who range from cycling enthusiasts to professionally-ranked athletes.
The team engages in multiple disciplines, including road, mountain, cyclocross, and track cycling. As a team recognized by Virginia Tech's Recreational Sports Department, our athletes benefit from various travel and training resources. Moreover, all students have access to the Hokie Bike Hub, a bicycle repair shop where students can maintain their bikes and make repairs for FREE.
The team competes in the Atlantic Collegiate Cycling Conference (ACCC) along schools such as NC State, Duke, Appalachian State, University of Maryland, and the Naval Academy. Road season for the ACCC runs during the spring academic semester while track, mountain, and cyclocross seasons run during the fall semester. Many of our athletes qualify for nationals, accumulating multiple individual and team honors at these events.
Those seeking to join the team will find a supportive community whether or not they wish to race. Blacksburg and the surrounding New River Valley offer hundreds of miles of scenic roads and trails best enjoyed with company. Additionally, concession sales at football games and frequent team dinners offer team members ways to get together off the bike.
